Peterborough United need fresh faces and formation to remove the handbrake against Barnsley
Peterborough United must freshen things up as they face fellow strugglers Barnsley in what promises to be a crucial match at the foot of the table on Saturday (November 27).
Darragh’s warning to the senior pros in his message this week
Peterborough United chairman sends a warning shot across the bows of senior players, but he’s not panicking and he trusts Fergie to sort it all out, plus apology to fans from midfielder
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has warned some senior players to start showing they can perform at Championship level or suffer the consequences.
Whether you look at the last eight or the last six games, these two sides are at the bottom of the form table. Regardless, Barnsley have taken three points, while Posh have 7 from their last 8, 4 from their last 6. Barnsley have just one win in their last 17 league outings, Posh have not won in five. The visitors also have the second worst away record in the league, ahead of Posh of course. The Tykes have take 3 points from their 9 games (Posh 3 from 10); scoring 6 and conceding 17 to Posh’s 5 and 28.
All makes pretty poor reading for both, highlighting the massive chance for both sides to pick up three points today and start to improve their recent woeful runs.

Posh: LDLLL
Barnsley: LWLLL

Fulham 4-1 Barnsley

The new boss certainly didn’t hold back about his new side...
Barnsley boss could have fallen asleep watching his new side, five away defeats in a row and when Peterborough United beat the Tykes in a big Championship relegation clash
New Barnsley boss Poya Asbaghi admitted he could have fallen asleep watching his first game in charge of the Tykes on Wednesday night (November 25).
New boss
Today will be the first time new Barnsley boss Poya Asbahgi has taken charge of his new side from the touchline in an away match. The Irani opted to only watched his side in their 4-1 defeat away at Fulham last week before taking charge of the 2-0 home defeat to Barnsely on Wednesday.
The 36-year-old was plucked from obscurity. Rather like Markus Schopp, Valerian Ismael and Gerhard Struber and Posh could do with him performing more akin to the former rather than the latter.
He took over this month, leaving the Swedish Under 21s . His final match in charge was a 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland, Coventry got the assist, is that a sign? Previously, he led IFK Goteborg to the Swedish Cup in 2019/20 and started out in management at Dalkurd FF in Sweden aged just 31.
FRIDAY PRESS CONFERENCE: Fergie- "Posh have been nowhere near good enough”
Peterborough United manager knows he is not immune from losing his job because his side have been “nowhere near good enough”
Posh boss Darren Ferguson knows that he is not immune from the sack, despite his new contract, because his side have been “nowhere near good enough” so far this season.
Past meetings
Posh have not beaten Barnsley on any of the last three occasions that they have played them. The last home meeting ended in a resounding 4-0 defeat for the then second placed Posh (League One).
All of the previous 5 meetings have been in League One but Posh did manage to win two crucial Championship meetings in the 2012/13 season against the Tykes. Goals from George Boyd and Tyrone Barnett gave Posh a 2-0 away win in October, while a Tommy Rome winner in January 2013 (2-1) moved Posh out of the relegation zone.
