Emerging boxing talent strikes gold at the Capital Box Cup after a superb performance
Emerging talent Jacob Hussain overcame a tough opponent and sweltering conditions to win gold at the 2026 Capital Box Cup event at a packed Broadwater Farm Community Centre in North London.
With three rings operating throughout the event, temperatures soared inside the crowded venue, creating gruelling conditions for all competitors.

But in the 57kg category Jack Hunt student Hussain, representing Walsall’s Pound 4 Pound Boxing Academy, and Callum Dhanjai of the famous Repton Boxing Club put on a superb show.
Hussain entered the tournament at short notice and moved up a weight category to take the bout, showing both courage and confidence before even stepping through the ropes.

The opening round began cautiously, with Hussain taking around 40 seconds to gauge the range against the taller, longer-reaching Dhanjai. Once settled, Hussain quickly established control of the contest, setting a high tempo and landing sharp combinations while defending well against Dhanjai’s dangerous backhand shots.
By rounds two and three, Hussain had fully mastered the distance and looked increasingly comfortable, repeatedly landing clean scoring punches. Despite Hussain’s success, Dhanjai proved a highly skilled opponent, displaying excellent footwork and clear experience against a southpaw fighter.
The intensity of the contest showed during the third round when Dhanjai required medical attention after Hussain’s persistent, accurate punching caused an eye injury. Following a quick assessment from the ringside medic, the bout was allowed to continue, with both young boxers responding with even greater determination in the closing stages.
After three hard-fought rounds, the result was announced in favour of Hussain by a 4-1 decision.
