FA Trophy history for Bourne Town, more misery for Spalding United, goalkeeper scores for Wisbech Town, March Town top and Netherton United are fourth
Bourne Town created club history at the Abbey Lawn on Saturday by reaching the second round of the FA Trophy.
‘The Wakes’ went into their tie against higher level Banbury United as firm underdogs after a poor run of Northern Premier Midlands League form, but an early goal from Dan Forbes delivered a 1-0 win.

It was the second successive win over a Southern Premier Division Central side for Bourne who had seen off Spalding United’s FA Cup conquerors Alvechurch Town away from home in the previous round. Banbury had knocked Peterborough Sports out of this season’s FA Trophy so they are two impressive scalps for Dan Flack’s side.
Forbes headed home a fine Zac Allen cross to give Bourne a sixth minute lead and the hosts defended that advantage with great spirit. They were helped when Banbury lost Aaron McCreadie to a straight red card after a crude challenge on Aaron Eyett in the second-half.

Former Posh youth team player Lewis Darlington saw a late second ‘goal’ wiped out for offside, but the celebrations weren’t delayed for long.
The second round draw is scheduled for Monday afternoon (October 26).
Spalding’s miserable week continued as they followed that shock FA Cup exit with a 2-0 National League North reverse at Hednesford Town. Two second-half goals sent ‘The Tulips’ down to 12th place ahead of a Tuesday game at home to Brackley Town (7.45pm).
A pair of Brad Rolt goals gave bottom club Deeping Rangers a shock 2-0 lead at United Counties Premier Division North title fancies Eastwood, but the home side hit back to win 6-3. Johnny Lockie scored the other Deeping goal.
Blackstones were 4-1 down at Sheffield FC midway through the second-half when the match was abandoned because of a waterlogged pitch.
In the Premier Division South FC Peterborough went down 1-0 at lowly Histon and Yaxley were beaten 3-1 at Sileby Rangers. Lil Francisco claimed a late consolation goal for ‘The Cuckoos.’
March Town are four points clear at the top of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division after a 4-1 win at Kirkley & Pakefield, while goalkeeper Lewis Elsom booted the winning goal for Wisbech Town against Woodbridge. Elsom’s huge clearance kick carried on the wind and bounced over the opposition goalkeeper’s head and into the net!
Netherton United are up to fourth in Division One North after goals from Mason Clarke and Freddie Hooke sealed a 2-0 win over Dussindale Rovers.
Whittlesey Athletic came from behind to share six goals at Framlingham Town, while FC Parson Drove won and Holbeach United lost.
