Why Luton Town boss Jack Wilshere has plenty of respect for Robbie Savage

In-form Luton Town will be wary of the unexpected when they visit Peterborough United for a League One game on Saturday (3pm kick off).

‘The Hatters’ will start the game as clear favourites after winning their last three matches, although all were at Kenilworth Road. Posh haven’t won any of their last three League One matches since a shock 3-1 win at Leicester City in the first game under the management of Robbie Savage.

But Luton boss Jack Wilshere, a former Arsenal midfielder, has a lot of time and respect for Savage.

"There has been a clear response from the team since Robbie went in,” Wilshere told the BBC. “I enjoyed watching the way Peterborough played under Luke Williams, but Robbie has a different way of playing, one that really represents his character.

"We are expecting a high energy game from them. They like to play forward, to attack and to create chances. We must do our jobs defensively and then hopefully we can them hurt them when we have the ball. We have to respect them though. They are a team that can suddenly create something out of nothing and we must be ready for that.

"I would imagine Robbie is searching for consistency from his players. He will have seen a lot of young talented players, but it takes time to work on becoming harder to beat and to become difficult to play against, while also playing attacking football.

"I have a lot of respect for Robbie as a player and plenty of respect for the very interesting journey he’s been on. He was released by Manchester United as a youngster, but he has used that disappointment to develop a mentality of proving people wrong. He has usually done just that as well.”

Unlike Posh, Luton have an almost fully fit squad to pick from as key forward players Jordan Clark and 36 year-old Nahki Wells have been passed fit.

Luton haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last six competitive matches.
