Peterborough United manager can't see anything to stop new striker from being a success at London Road

Peterborough United boss Luke Williams can’t see new striker Danny Ormerod being anything but a success at London Road.

Williams was delighted to land the 20 year-old from National League side AFC Fylde for a fee of £600k this week. Ormerod is expected to be in the Posh squad for Saturday’s tough League One trip to Blackpool.

“I’m really happy he’s here,” Williams said. “Hopefully this will be the perfect home for him. He scores all types of goals and he works really hard so I can’t see anything that will stop him being a success.

"It’s difficult to predict how quickly he wall make the step up, but the step up from League One to Championship is huge and yet JJ Morgan and Kyrell Lisbie have already made an impact at the higher level this season. However long it takes with Danny we will be happy.

"We already have one striker in top form at the club and now we have another one with great potential. Danny’s arrival also gives me options. We can have two strikers on the pitch as long as it doesn’t upset the balance of the team, but Harry Leonard is also a good enough footballer to take one step back and play behind a striker if necessary.”

Williams certainly won’t be pushing the recruitment team of chairman Darragh MacAnthony and Barry Fry for more new players before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, but it’s thought the club are still seeking a central defender.

Posh expect players to leave in the next few days. Klaidi Lolos, Declan Frith, Donay O’Brien-Brady, George Nevett and Chris Conn-Clarke remain on the transfer list.

"There could be a flurry of activity in the next few days.” Williams added. “I’m not asking for more because Darragh and Barry have already given me a lot, although if there is a player we can get that strengthens the squad then I would want them to do that. I don’t want bodies who won’t improve the squad we already have because that is not an effective use of management time.

"In the next few days some of our players might find the perfect place for them as well.”
