'Angry' Peterborough United striker could get 30 goals this season according to his chairman

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes an ‘angry’ Harry Leonard could score 30 goals this season.

MacAnthony has not lost faith in a 23 year-old striker who has missed more chances than he’s converted in League One games so far this season. Leonard has nine goals in all competitions, but six have arrived in the cups.

But the chairman points to a much slower scoring start from his centre forward last season when he ended up with 17 goals despite not claiming his first until FA Cup first round day against Cardiff City on November 1.

MacAnthony, who was speaking on the latest edition of his ‘Hard Truth’ podcast, said: “We have one of the best number nines in the league who will one day go for millions. He has scored from difficult chances, while missing much easier ones. It all just tells me he will soon go on a run.

"I saw him play angry last season and he started scoring lots of goal. I sense that will happen again. He didn’t score until November last season so he has scored 26 goals in a calendar year. He could still get 30 goals this season."

MacAnthony also revealed 18 year-old forward Bolu Shofowoke has signed a new contract at Posh.
