Peterborough United boss on the 'remarkable' progress of Bolu Shofowoke and the inevitable interest from bigger clubs
Peterborough United boss Luke Williams admits Bolu Shofowoke’s progress has been ‘remarkable.’
The 17 year-old forward claimed his first senior goal in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup rout of Championship side Watford to cap another sparkling display. He’s impressed even though he has been playing on the wing rather than his specialist position of centre forward.

Shofowoke’s highlights reel has predictably caught the attention of some big clubs with Premier League clubs Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Brighton all showing an interest as well as French top-flight side Strasbourg.
Those reports don’t surprise Williams, but he believes it’s bit too soon to be talking about a teenager with just nine first-team starts leaving London Road.
Williams said: “Of course clubs will be interested in Bolu, but he’s still very young and only just settling into first-team football. It’s incredibly difficult to make the adjustments Bolu has made so I hope everyone watching him appreciates how remarkable his progress has been.
"Our Academy exists to provide first-team players for the club so it’s a bit too soon to be talking about him leaving.”
Williams believes Shofowoke’s contract deal, which runs to the end of this season, has incentives built in. Posh also have the option of extending that contract until the end of the 2027-28 season.
