Head to head record

Posh have a winning head-to-head record 10 wins to 8 (6 draws) but all of the recent form is with Preston.

Posh have won 2 but lost 5 of the last 7 meetings and have not won at Deepdale since 1996.

Josh Ginnelly (LW) to Hearts

Graham Burke (AM) to Shamrock Rovers

Louis Moult (ST) to Burton Albion

Jayden Stockley (ST) TO Charlton

David Nugent (ST) released

Paul Gallagher (CM) retired

A lot of strikers have left the club. Tom Barkhuizen, Ched Evans and Sean Maguire are still around but can hardly be referred to as proven Championship goalscorers.

They may look to 23-year-old Dane Emil Riis for that.

Preston’s incomings

Izzy Brown (RW) from Chelsea

Matthew Olosunde (RB) from Rotherham

Jamie Thomas (ST) from Bamber Bridge

Liam Lindsay (CB) from Stoke

Daniel Iversen (GK) from Leicester (loan)

Liam Lindsay making his loan move from Stoke permanent headlines Preston’s business and Olosunde could be a shrewd pick-up. They have been dealt a big blow though with Brown already picking up an ACL injury that has put his season in doubt.

Ferguson took the Preston job in January 2010 just two months after being sacked from Posh, his first managerial job. He assembled a squad which included ex-Posh faces Craig Morgan, Sean St Ledger and Paul Coutts and even pulled in some family favours to get Danny Welbeck on loan but ultimately his time at Deepdale was unsuccessful.

He was sacked in the December of what would have been his first full season in charge and Preston would go on to be relegated. He ended with a record of P49 W13 D11 L25 win% 26.53. Less than a year later, however, he was leading Posh to Play-Off glory at Old Trafford so it appears some things happen for a reason.

Regrets but no hard feeling as Ferguson returns to Deepdale

Alan Swann picked his team for the match, what do you think?

Preston’s difficult start

Preston host Posh today yet to get off the mark in the league in what has been a tough start in permanent charge for Frankie McAvoy. He became interim head coach in March last season when Alex Neil was sacked and after winning 5 of his 8 games, was given the full-time gig.

He has never managed before that and so far, has overseen a 4-1 defeat at home to Hull on the opening day, followed by 2-1 and 1-0 away losses and Reading and Huddersfield respectively. Posh will come into this game quietly confident after a much-improved showing against Cardiff last time out.

Posh present a ‘formidable’ challenge says Preston boss

Another referee from Northampton this week for Posh. Dean Whitestone is the man in he middle. He has been rather card happy this season in his three matches, producing ten yellow cards and sending off Fulham’s Harry Wilson for a kick out in their 5-1 win over Huddersfield last Saturday.

Team news- Some good, some bad
