Injuries and suspensions threaten to hamper Peterborough United in bid for Carabao Cup quarter-final place

Peterborough United have injury and suspension issues to contend with as they travel to Valley Parade to face Bradford City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday (7:45pm kick off).

Posh will be without the competition’s top goal scorer. Harry Leonard, in Yorkshire.

Leonard is clear at the top of the standings with four goals, but will be suspended due to yellow cards picked up against Bristol Rovers and Barnsley in previous rounds.

Therefore, Danny Ormerod is expected to make his first start for the club since the last round, when he scored twice against Barnsley.

Posh are also sweating over the fitness of centre-backs Lucca Mendonca and Tom O’Connor.

Mendonca was not present during Monday’s open training session at London Road and will have to be assessed on Tuesday morning after taking a knock to the ankle against Bromley at the weekend.

O’Connor is also thought to be unlikely to start again having only just come back from six weeks on the sidelines. He also played through a slight issue he was feeling at half-time on Saturday.

If both miss out, it is likely that David Okagbue will return to the side to and make his first appearance since Robbie Savage took over.

Posh do, however, expect to welcome back Matt Garbett and Josh Feeney, who were both absent from Saturday’s game.

Savage said: “It’s brilliant to have Tom back. He felt a little something at half-time but he played through although he’ll be struggling to play consecutive games so soon.

"Harry is suspended so Danny will get an opportunity. It’s a great chance for Danny and he’s done well when he’s come on in games. If he plays well and scores then it’ll be hard to take him out.

"We’ve had one of two knocks at the weekend too. Lucca, who has been magnificent, hasn’t trained today and we’ll have to assess him. He got a kick on the ankle.

"Matty has trained well today and is moving in the right direction, he just needs a run of games but he’s come through today fine.”
