Hughes returns to action in draw for Peterborough United Under 21s
Sam Hughes has completed his first comeback appearance following 15 months on the sidelines.
Hughes played the first 31 minutes of a 2-2 Professional Development Under 21 League draw against Sheffield Wednesday at the Bespoke Build Training ground. He will build up his match fitness slowly as he continues his recovery from two calf operations.

Hughes had last appeared in a friendly at Boston United in July, 2025. The centre-back last started a competitive match in May, 2025 at Mansfield Town.
First-team squad members, Collin Andeng Ndi, James Dornelly, Evan Weir and Harrison Jones also started against Wednesday.
Posh led 2-0 at the break this afternoon after an early goal from Dornelly and a 37th strike from Ejiro Abbey who slid in to score after some excellent play from Pat Sykut.
Dornelly almost made it 3-0 with an acrobatic overhead kick following a set piece that rattled the woodwork, while Jones nodded just wide.
But the visitors hit back in the second half with goals on 52 and 72 minutes to force a draw. Posh: Andeng Ndi, Dornelly (sub HN Jones, 61 mins), Weir, Christoudias, Freeman, Hughes (sub Claxton, 31 mins), Sykut, Fox, Abbey (sub Simmons, 46 mins), HM Jones, McWilliams-Marcano.
Unused subs: Claxton, Smith, Dagne, Joseph, Arber.
The under 21s are back in action at Barnsley on Monday, October 26.
Posh Under 18s drew 2-2 in a Professional Development League game at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday. Cordell Morgan-Antonio and Bamlak Dagne, with a superb solo effort, scored the Posh goals for a team who are next in action at home to Wigan Athletic on October 31.
