Local author Will's new walking book covering Stamford and Rutland

“ the routes are designed to provide some entertainment for all the family”

Local author Will Hetherington has written a new book in the Will’s Walks series, containing 15 family-friendly walking routes in the wider Stamford and Rutland area.

Will said: “Since I wrote the first one of these books in 2020 I have had great feedback, but a common theme is that a lot of people just don’t have time to do the longer walks. Another thing readers have mentioned is that they enjoy taking the children out exploring, but six miles is too far for little legs and short attention spans. If you also consider people who perhaps can’t walk as far as they used to, then it became clear that a compendium of classic shorter walks in the area would be an extremely welcome addition to the series.”

The new book contains 15 walks which don’t exceed four miles, and a few of them are two miles or less. Will continued: “Whether it’s the wonderful wild-animal-themed signposts of Hazel’s Wood at Bainton or the massive playground on the edge of The Deeps at Easton on the Hill, the routes are designed to provide some entertainment for all the family. And they offer a combination of gurgling streams, cricket grounds, peaceful woodland, heritage railways, grand churches, even grander houses and beautiful countryside.”

The fifth edition of the Will’s Walks contains routes ranging from Nene Park on the edge of Peterborough and Deeping St James in the east fen to the rolling hills of High Leicestershire at King’s Norton in the west and Exton in Rutland to the north.

The book has been produced in association with Tallington Lakes and is available from 28 October for £11.95 in shops across the area or from theactivemag.com (plus p&p).
