‘Cosy’ farm shop near Peterborough where you can get a two-course Christmas dinner for just over £20

New owners took over the farm shop earlier this year

The weeks leading up to Christmas are always a great time to visit your local farm shop, particularly if it’s got a restaurant or cafe where you can take shelter from the miserable late autumn or early winter weather.

At this time of year, the farm shops surrounding Peterborough become packed with all kinds of hearty seasonal produce.

From sacks of potatoes to Brussels sprouts on the stalk, farm shops are your go-to place for veggie essentials that are guaranteed to warm the cockles at this time of year.

Once Halloween has passed and pumpkins are replaced by pine trees, many farm shops embrace the lead up to the festive season and stock many different Christmas goodies.

Given Peterborough’s close proximity to several rural counties, it’s perhaps unsurprising that several highly rated farm shops are located a short drive from the city.

Many local farm shops also have an on-site cafe or restaurant where produce from neighbouring fields is used to create some truly tasty handmade delights.

Christmas at Rectory Farm Kitchen

Smack bang in the middle of rolling fields, it’s fair to say that Rectory Farm Kitchen isn’t somewhere you’ll have passed unintentionally.

Located a couple of miles east of Warmington, just off the A605, the farm shop was taken over by Jake and Darcey Crowther at the end of July after founder Sally Andrew decided to step aside after nearly four years.

Over the past three months, Jake and Darcey have gone about putting their own spin on the business, namely by creating specific autumn and winter menus.

The autumn menu, which launched in September, features hearty seasonal favourites such as broths, soups and stews.

Earlier this week, the new couple confirmed that the restaurant will offer a brand-new Christmas menu from December 1.

Priced at £23.95 for two courses or £29.95 for three, the new festive menu allows customers to choose between three different starters, three different mains and two different desserts.

Roast turkey, pigs in blankets and Christmas pudding are, as you’d expect, all on offer.

The farm shop is also launching a new afternoon tea menu from December 1, priced at £27.50.

Featuring mini mince pies, smoked salmon finger sandwiches and chocolate truffle puddings, this festive feast is probably best enjoyed separately to the Christmas dinner.

Pre-booking for both new menus is essential. You can find more information about Rectory Farm Kitchen here.
