Ramsey students donate over 100kg of food in successful Christmas Food Bank Drive
At the beginning of December, Year 12 students at Ramsey Gatehouse Sixth Form, part of Abbey College, launched their first social action project, running a Christmas Food Bank Drive in support of Ramsey FoodBank.
Working in groups, students took responsibility for promoting the appeal across designated year groups and encouraging widespread involvement. Throughout the month, they showed creativity and commitment by designing promotional materials, preparing collection boxes and organising donations.
The project concluded in the final week of term, when Year 12 representatives accompanied Head of Sixth Form, Samantha Moore to personally deliver the donations to Ramsey FoodBank. The students were warmly welcomed by Lisa Williamson, Chair of Governors at Abbey College.
Thanks to the generosity of the school community and the dedication of the students, a total of 105kg of food was donated, enough to create more than 10 food parcels for families in need this Christmas.
Samantha Moore, Head of Ramsey Gatehouse Sixth Form, said: “I am extremely proud of our Year 12 students for the commitment and care they have shown throughout this project. As their first social action initiative, they approached it with real enthusiasm and maturity. Their efforts will make a meaningful difference to families in our local community, particularly at such an important time of year.”
The students would like to thank everyone who supported the appeal and donated so generously. This initiative demonstrates the positive impact young people can have when they work together to support their local community.
