They beat St John Fisher 3-0 in the final at Alma Road thanks to a hat-trick by Nigel Evans. The size and strength of Evans and defensive strong men skipper Craig Murphy and Trevor Slack were the decisive factors for Star. The successful Star side was Latter, Blades (sub Fovargue), Slack, Murphy, Wilson, Slight, Tokely, Williamson, Evans, Thomson (sub Ippolito), Clipston.

Their skipper Trevor Quow kicked all their points and is seen receiving the trophy from dashing ET rugby writer Bob French. The rest of the team was  Mark Sawyer, Carmen Tsang, Lloyd Mendez, Stephen Wagg, Paul Woods, Gary Parker, Ray Taggart, Andrew Robson, Phillip Allen, Robert Sergeant, Martin Fitzjohn, Kevin Wilkinson, Dave Rawlings and Dave Shaw.
