Turning the tables on care home kitchen team to celebrate National Chef Day

Residents at Hampton Grove Care Home in Peterborough have been celebrating National Chef Day in a special way, turning the tables on their hardworking kitchen team to show their appreciation for the delicious meals and dedication they provide every day.
In a heart-warming celebration, residents swapped their usual roles, put on their chef whites and took centre stage to serve a delightful afternoon tea, complete with a selection of teas and juices, to the home’s chefs and kitchen team.
The afternoon was about much more than delicious treats. Each member of the kitchen team received a personal gift from the residents as a token of gratitude for the care, commitment and passion they bring to their work. Residents then sat alongside the team, sharing refreshments, conversation and smiles while expressing their thanks for the wonderful meals prepared for them each day.
The celebration provided a lovely opportunity to recognise the important role the kitchen team plays in daily life at Hampton Grove, where food is about far more than nourishment. It brings people together, creates moments of enjoyment and helps make the home feel special.
Becky Merrington, Activities Coordinator, said: “Our kitchen team do so much more than prepare lovely meals. They help create special moments for our residents and play a huge part in making our celebrations and activities a success.
I wanted to find a meaningful way for our residents to give something back and show the team just how much they are appreciated. Seeing our residents put on their chef whites, serve afternoon tea and personally thank each member of the team was truly heart-warming.
