Gunthorpe Primary School celebrates OPAL Play award
The children and staff at Gunthorpe primary school had a wonderful time celebrating being awarded the OPAL (outdoor play and learning) Platinum award for their play provision. The school has been on a journey to transform the children's play times. "Giving children high quality play opportunities isn't just about a break from learning. Through these play experiences children are learning and developing a wide range of skills including social and communication skills, emotional regulation, physical development and creativity" Mrs Young, Play coordinator.
The children and their families had a wonderful time celebrating with a morning full of play, and the presentation of the award, the morning was made even more exciting by a very special visitor. We’ve been on a journey together and it gives me so much pleasure to see how you have all grown in confidence and practice over the last 2 years. Thank you."
"You should be immensely proud of what has been achieved here. Gunthorpe is not only one of the best schools in the UK for play provision, but one of the best in the world. There are more than 17,000 primary schools across the UK, and Gunthope ranks among the top 1% for its play provision."
