Cambridgeshire site manager wins Quality Award
A site manager overseeing the construction at a housing development in Cambridgeshire has won a top national award for the quality of the homes being built onsite.

Barratt Homes’ site manager at Alconbury Weald in Alconbury, Lizz Wakefield (41), has won a Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC), an award known as the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry.
In total, site managers working for Barratt Homes’ parent company, Barratt Redrow Plc, have won 122 Pride in the Job awards this year alone – more than any other housebuilder.

This is the 22nd year in a row that Barratt Redrow has won the most Pride in the Job awards, underlining just how important building high quality sustainable homes has been to the developer over the past two decades.
Lizz, who has worked for Barratt Homes since 2022, has overseen the Huntingdon development since its launch in 2025. This award little over a year into her tenure at Alconbury Weald highlights Lizz’s commitment to quality and strong leadership.
Lizz said: “It feels incredible. We have put a lot of time and effort into the site and knowing that our dedication has been rewarded with such an honourable award is the icing on the cake.
“We actively try our best to deliver high-quality homes and genuinely care about the homes we are handing over to our customers.”
“My favourite part of being on this development is seeing the changes come together to build a community. It's fantastic to watch the vision become a reality and know that we're creating a place where people can put down roots and make lasting memories.”
The awards recognise the very best site managers across the country, with thousands of inspections having taken place to determine the winners. Judging is rigorous, with assessment across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.
The competition is also at the heart of raising standards in housebuilding, with the awards showcasing the role site managers play in ensuring much needed new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites, and to the highest quality standards. With site managers passing on their skills to their teams and mentoring assistant site managers, the awards help drive up quality standards across the industry.
Ben Kalus, Managing Director at Barratt Homes South Midlands, said: “We’re so proud of Lizz for achieving this prestigious Pride in the Job Quality Award. It’s amazing news for both the team at Alconbury Weald and for our customers.
“These awards demonstrate our long-term commitment to looking after our customers and building high quality homes. They also showcase what it takes to be a top site manager, recognising the hard work from the entire team, including suppliers and contractors. Anyone who buys a home from a site with a Pride in the Job award winner knows their home has been built to the highest standard.”
Earlier this year Barratt Redrow also achieved a five-star rating from its customers in the HBF Customer Satisfaction Survey, which recognises both build quality and excellence in customer care. This is the 17th year in a row that Barratt Redrow customers have rated it a five-star housebuilder, underlining its long-term commitment to making its customers happy.
