Oundle Rugby Club stretch their perfect start to seven matches by winning easily at London Welsh

Oundle Rugby Club’s perfect start to National Two East stretched to seven games with a 45-0 win at London Welsh on Saturday.

London Welsh, in front of a large home support, actually came out the blocks quickly, but some strong defending by the visitors kept them at bay.

And slowly, but surely, Oundle started to show why they are in pole position in the league as they looked dangerous whenever they attacked the home side’s line, although the margin was just seven points at the break courtesy of a Ewan Baker try and a Benjamin Young conversion.

But the floodgates opened in the second-half as Chester Owen crossed twice with Rian Hamilton, Finlay Ogden, Frankie Sleightholme and Thomas Collins all touched down, the latter for the first time this season Young was successful with four second half conversions and also marshalled the back line superbly, while Lockie Brown, who made a try saving tackle to keep Welsh pointless, captain Conor Gracey and Owen were outstanding in the back row. With closest rivals Old Albanians and Guernsey both dropping points Oundle sit four points clear heading into a week off. They are next in action on October 31 when Guernsey are the visitors (1pm kick off). Oundle second team remained top of their merit table, overcoming strong resistance from Leighton Buzzard before finally securing a 52-14 win. The colts completed a successful Saturday beating Huntingdon 21-12.

**Peterborough RUFC made it three wins out of four in Regional 23 Midlands East with a 52-24 win over Hinckley seconds at Fengate. Report online on Monday morning.
