Jobs are at risk at the frozen chips maker McCain Foods in Whittlesey.

Staff have been warned that jobs could go as part of a planned restructuring of the company’s manufacturing operations.

It is understood that consultations are already under way with some staff at the factory at Funthams Lane in Whittlesey

Managers for McCain Foods, which employs about 350 staff at the Funthams Lane site, say that not all of the planned changes will lead to job losses.

A McCain spokesperson said: "McCain is taking steps to ensure its GB manufacturing network remains competitive, efficient and well positioned for long-term growth.

"As part of this, we are proposing changes to how our manufacturing operations are organised and structured, with a focus on creating a simpler, more sustainable operating model for the future.

"These proposals are intended to support the long-term success of our business and our manufacturing operations.”

The company says it is too early to comment on the specific impact of any changes.
