Simmonds was the snooker star at the Broadway Club

Luke Simmonds beat Gary Skipworth 2-1 to win the inaugural Snooker Open Final at Peterborough's Broadway Club and claim the £450 first prize and trophy on Sunday.

Simmonds whitewashed Darren Bampkin, Steve Martin, with a break of 84, the highest of the event, and Kristian Willetts, before scraping past Seniors Invitational champion Steven Waldron in a decider on the final black to reach the title match.

Having lost his opening game to pre-tournament favourite Matt Glasby, runner-up Skipworth held his nerve in three one frame matches in the one-loss side of the draw, defeating Neil Dowlman, local hope Steve Singh and former professional Colin Mitchell en route to a sixth Legends Tour final.

Next up is the Team Cup in April, which sees 16 players randomly paired together, with the winning side collecting the £550 top prize.
