Rapid hat-trick of prestigious titles for a rising star on the city boxing scene
Emerging Peterborough PAL Boxing club star William McDonough has completed a rapid hat-trick of gold medal winning performances at prestigious Box Cup events.
The 15 year-old’s latest success came at the Manchester Box Cup in the 80kg 2011 category after an impressive final win over highly-rated Alfie White of Fleckwell Boxing Club, High Wycombe.

Facing a tough, aggressive opponent who constantly pressed forward, William showed maturity beyond his years as he quickly found his range and controlled the contest with a series of classy southpaw counter punches. His timing, ringcraft and shot selection proved the difference as he boxed his way to another impressive victory.
The win marks an incredible milestone for the talented youngster, who has now captured three consecutive BoxCup gold medals in the space of just four weeks. His recent run of form highlights the hard work and dedication being put in behind the scenes, with coaches praising his willingness to learn and improve every time he steps into the ring.
Peterborough PAL coach Paul Goode said: “William continues to develop every time he boxes. He’s always learning, always improving and showing the qualities needed to succeed at the highest levels of the sport. To win three BoxCup titles in four weeks is a fantastic achievement and one that should make him very proud.”
Club chief Chris Baker added: “The latest success is another proud moment for Peterborough PAL, a club that continues to produce talented young boxers through its homegrown development programme. With another champion emerging from its ranks, the club’s philosophy of developing talent from the ground upwards is once again paying dividends.
“As William’s impressive winning streak continues, Peterborough PAL can look forward with confidence knowing the future remains bright for one of the city’s most promising young boxing talents.”
