'Dynamite' Doe into a National quarter-final and girl power from the Manning sisters

Henry ‘Dynamite’ Doe is through to the quarter-finals of the National Junior Boxing Championships.

The 14 year-old Top Yard Boxing Club scrapper is an Eastern Counties Champion and took on Western Champion Coby Allcom from Bideford in a last-16 fight. He overcame the odds to win comfortably on points.

Doe was the much less experienced boxer, but his slick footwork and counter-punches took Allcom by surprise. The fight favourite wanted a toe-to-toe contest, but Doe stuck to his game-plan and kept picking his opponent off with straight back hands and hooks.

Allcom came out swinging in the final round, but Doe kept his composure to claim a deserved success and a quarter-final bout against the London Champion.

Top Yard’s Manning sisters were also in action and both impressed.

Lilly-Mai Manning (13) made her competitive debut against Atherstone Boxing Club's, Mia Moore who was a much taller and heavier opponent.

This didn't faze Lilly-Mai at all who attacked from the first bell. This was a high-paced bout with both girls landing clean shots. Lilly-Mai did the better work landing the cleaner and stronger punches, but had to work hard throughout the three rounds. She worked very well slipping and landing clean shots to the head which forced her opponent back many times.

Consistent pressure and three-four punch combinations then secured a fine debut win.

Younger sister Miley-Jo Manning (11) enjoyed a skills (non-scoring) bout against Hardwick Boxing club's Ava Clarke. T

This was Miley-Jo’s first exhibition bout giving away age, weight and experience. Right from the first bell she pressured her opponent and didn't step off the gas throughout the three rounds. Her two-three punch combinations and consistent pressure worked in her favour.

Top Yard coach Hamad Javed said: “The sisters work so hard in the gym and they were itching to get in the ring and showcase their skills. Nothing fazes them in the gym and they're always up for competitive fights. We sure have some girl power in the club."
