Peterborough Milton Golf Club has raised £22,750 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) after nominating them as its charity of the year.

Members, captains and juniors at the club pulled together to organise a packed programme of activities, including raffles, auctions, sponsored challenges and community events.

Highlights included auctions for four‑ball golf vouchers, a raffle for an exclusive 2025 golf pro bag, a juniors’ ‘Longest Day’ challenge playing 72 holes, a wine‑tasting evening and a sweepstake on the four major golf tournaments.

The club also introduced fun fines, charity bunkers and sales of red golf gloves - all adding to the impressive fundraising total.

Club captain Andy Martin said the club chose to support the BHF because heart conditions have affected many of its members and their families.

Martin said: “We’ve been absolutely thrilled by the support from everyone at the club. Fundraising here is like a well‑oiled machine, and our members have really pulled together to raise this fantastic amount. Many of us have personal connections to heart conditions, so choosing the BHF meant a great deal to us.

"Several of us were also lucky enough to visit the BHF‑funded research centre at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, which really brought home the importance of the work the charity supports. We just hope the money helps to save lives.”

The captains’ team also undertook their own challenge, climbing Mount Snowdon, while match‑funding from Barclays helped boost the total further.

Gary Atyes, the BHF’s Cambridgeshire fundraising manager, added: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Peterborough Milton Golf Club for their amazing support over the past year.

"The funds raised will help us continue our vital research into heart and circulatory diseases, which affects millions of families across the UK. Community fundraising like this plays a crucial role in powering our work, and we can’t thank the club enough for their dedication and generosity.”

Cardiovascular disease causes 170 deaths each month in Cambridgeshire. The BHF funds research to prevent, diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease and help people live longer, healthier lives.
