Spalding United and Stamford dropped valuable points and FC Peterborough's winning streak came to an end

Spalding United and Stamford AFC both dropped valuable points in the Southern Premier Division Central on Saturday.

A pair of 2-2 home draws against Bishop’s Stortford and Bromsgrove Sporting respectively were not what the doctor, or managers Jimmy Dean and Graham Drury, had ordered.

Leaders Spalding had to battle back from a 2-0 half-time deficit with goals from Connor Johnson and Dan Lawlor to claim a point, but with second-placed Harborough Town winning again the gap between the top two is just a point. Harborough play the first of three games in hand at third-placed Real Bedford on Tuesday (February 3).

Stamford are also in action on Tuesday at play-off chasing Quorn and they were within seven minutes of travelling with a fourth win in a row under their belts. Bromsgrove scored first, but Leon Lobjoit quickly levelled and Nike Armstrong fired ‘The Daniels’ in front seven minutes into the second-half.

The visitors equalised in the 83rd minute to grow the gap between Stamford and safety to five points from three.

Bourne Town’s bid to exit the Northern Premier Midlands Division relegation zone was dashed by late goal which gave visitors Rugby Borough a 1-0 win. Bourne are four points from safety ahead of a Tuesday night home game against Sutton Coldfield (7.45pm kick off).

FC Peterborough’s five-game winning streak in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League came to a disappointing end with a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Dussindale & Hellesdon. Mahamdou Camara scored for the city side who remain in a comfortable play-off position.

Whittlesey Athletic were 2-1 up with five minutes to go at lowly Diss Town, but went on to lose 3-2. Jack Kent with a goal and an assist was the Whittlesey man-of-the-match. Scott Waumsley scored the other Whittlesey goal.

Holbeach United came from 1-0 down at the break to beat Needham Market Reserves 3-1 at Carter’s Park. Holbeach (10th) have now moved above Whittlesey (12th) in the table.

Struggling Deeping Rangers were well beaten at Gresley in United Counties Premier Division North and Wisbech Town were pipped at home by Belper despite goals for Sam Bennett and Rob Conyard.

March Town are steady in second place of Premier Division South after goals from Danny Emmington, Ruben Marshall and James Hill-Seekings secured a 3-0 home win over Leicester Nirvana. Yaxley were 2-1 down at Aylestone Park when that game was abandoned in the second-half because of a waterlogged pitch.

Peterborough Sports completed a hat-trick of National League North wins thanks to an early Max Booth goal at Chorley.
