World Cup 2022: Heartbreak for Ivan Toney as ex-Peterborough United striker misses out on England squad
It may not have come as much of a shock given Southgate hasn't appeared to take a liking to Toney but in terms of the stats, it is a surprising omission.

Hide AdNo Englishman, other than Harry Kane, has scored more Premier League goals than Toney’s eight this season. He has also scored 25 of his 26 career penalties and has a reputation as a master from the spot.
He has missed out to Kane and Newcastle's Callum Wilson, who has six goals this season after recovering from his latest injury setback.
Toney has one England call-up to his name but was an unused substitute in both Nations League fixtures in September- an ominous sign for his prospects in hindsight.

Hide AdPosh are due another add-on payment if he does ever make his England debut while at Brentford.
Ex-Posh loanee Ben White has made the cut though and will be joined by Jason Cummings as the ex-Posh contingent at the tournament after he was selected by Australia earlier this week.
England begin their campaign against Iran on November 21 before facing USA on November 25 and Wales on November 29.
