Royal Mail confirms that four Peterborough postcodes have been hit by delivery delays just weeks before Black Friday and Christmas rush

The delays stem from problems at the Orton Southgate Delivery Office

Royal Mail is warning residents in four Peterborough postcodes to expect delivery delays this week. According to its daily round-up of operations regarding today (Tuesday, November 3), those in the PE2, PE7, PE8 and PE9 postcodes could experience delays.

The PE2 postcode covers thousands of addresses south of the River Nene, while PE7 relates to areas such as Whittlesey and Yaxley.

Those with a PE8 postcode live west of the city in North Northamptonshire, with the PE9 postcode covering Stamford and the surrounding areas.

The delays stem from issues at the Orton Southgate Delivery Office, according to Royal Mail’s daily operations update.

Problems at the Huntingdon Delivery Office could also result in delays for residents in postcodes PE26-PE29.

These delays come just weeks before Royal Mail’s busiest time of the year as it processes millions of cards and parcels ahead of Black Friday and Christmas.

The nationwide postal operator aims to deliver to all addresses six days a week, although local issues may prevent this in some areas.

High levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors may result in some addresses not receiving deliveries on all six days.

Royal Mail says it provides targeted support to struggling delivery offices to address their challenges and restore services.

In September, Royal Mail announced a seasonal recruitment campaign for mail sorters to work at its depot in Papyrus Road, Werrington, creating 146 temporary vacancies.

The jobs created in Peterborough will be among 22,000 seasonal roles that Royal Mail is creating nationally to help transport, sort and deliver the additional parcels and mail the company expects to process over the festive period.
