Posh have signed their fair share of duds, including many that looked excellent purchases at the time of their arrival.

9. BILL GREEN
It was of course the impossible task to replace Chris Turner at the heart of the Posh defence, but manager John Barnwell thought he'd done it when breaking the club transfer record by splashing out £60k on West Ham's Bill Green. After all he'd played 75 top-flight matches for the Hammers and Carlisle combined. But Green's one season at Posh ended up in a relegation from the old Division Three before he went on to enjoy success at Chesterfield and Doncaster.
10. DANNY ROSE
It was soon obvious Posh needed help in their first season back in the second tier in 2009-10 and manager Darren Ferguson did well to pick up a highly-rated young Spurs full-back/midfielder in Danny Rose. But no, he was dreadful and after six appearances (and following the sacking of Ferguson) the 19 year-old returned to White Hart Lane, broke into the Spurs first team before in time going on to play for England. 11. LUKE JAMES
Posh pushed the boat out to sign highly-rated teenage forward James from Hartlepool for £500k in 2014. He scored on his debut, but then didn't score again until netting at Doncaster (pictured) six months later. James was loaned out several times befrore Posh accepted a big financial hit by letting him leave for Forest Green in 2017 for very little after scoring just twice and starting just 21 games.
12. JAMES QUINN
James Quinn was a Northern Ireland international forward who famously helped his country beat England in a World Cup qualifier in 2005. Mark Wright signed him for Posh in August 2005. He had undoubted class, but the rough and tumble of Division Three didn't suit him and he'd been loaned out within two months of his arrival and played just 25 times before he went to the footballing backwater of Northampton Town to finish his career.
