Posh have signed their fair share of duds, including many that looked excellent purchases at the time of their arrival.
Here is a list of signings who didn’t live up to expectations, some supplied by Posh fans and others from PT Posh writer Alan Swann.
No members of the current Posh squad were considered.

17. ZEKE ROWE
How good did this forward look in pre-season 1996-97 after new manager Barry Fry had signed him on a free transfer from Chelsea? He's spent four years as a kid at Stamford Bridge and looked sharp and strong in his first few games for Posh, but like much of that first season under Fry little was as it seemed and Rowe struggled to live up to that early promise. In three seasons at Posh he started just 19 games and ended up playing for Benwick Athletic in the Peterborough League.

18. JASON CUMMINGS
Another forward who looked high-class in his first few Posh games before falling to pieces. Cummings joined on loan from Nottingham Forest and scored six goals in his first five League One games, but didn't score again until he was sent back to the City Ground in January. Some off-field shenanigans didn't help.

19. GEORGE MONCUR
Posh tried hard to sign this exciting attacking midfielder from Colchester in the summer of 2016, but he understandably joined Barnsley in the Championship instead. It was a very happy boss in Grant McCann when Moncur was loaned to Posh a couple of months later, especially when he scored twice in his second appearance. But that was it. Moncur struggled to settle amid suggestions his partner wasn't happy in Peterborough and he returned to South Yorkshire after just five starts for Posh.

20. TYRONE BARNETT
Posh boss Darren Ferguson reportedly watched powerful centre forward Tyrone Barnett in action for 45 minutes before he became the first million pound (£1.1 million) signing in the club's history in January, 2012. He scored a dramatic late equaliser on debut at Doncaster and roughed up Championship leaders Reading in an outstanding display later that season. But the excellence turned out to be an illusion as Barnett went on to lumber through games often to the annoyance of Posh fans and he was loaned out to Ipswich under two years after his arrival at London Road. After several other loan spells Barnett joined Shrewsbury in a free transfer in February, 2015. He scored 12 goals for Posh so roughly cost Posh £92k a goal.
