It’s a very small sample of games for some players, but we did find someone worthy of an an A grade!
Grading key: A-Star pupil, B-Consistently good, C-Satisfactory, D-Could do much better, E-Bottom of the class.
1.
MARK BEEVERS: Appearances: 20. Goals: 0. A skipper who leads by deed rather than word has been a reliable presence at the heart of the Posh defence. His only struggles this season have come when matched against big, powerful forwards like Blackpool’s Gary Madine and, rather more surprisingly, Harry Cardwell of Chorley. He remains a set-piece disappointment in the opposition area. GRADE: B-
2.
FRAZER BLAKE-TRACY: Appearances: 10. Goals: 0. An injury suffered just before the start of the season stopped this left-sided defender continuing the promise of a decent first campaign in the Football League. He’s started just three League One matches and the third of those at Portsmouth exposed his weaknesses in the left-back role. If he wins a regular starting place it could be as the left-sided centre-back in a three. GRADE: D
3.
RYAN BROOM: Appearances: 17. Goals: 1. Much was expected of the summer signing from Cheltenham, but the later arrival of Sammie Szmodics stopped him playing in his preferred ‘number 10’ role and led him to the wing-back position. He has failed to hold down a regular place, starting just five League One matches so far. Played well at Wimbledon, despite missing a sitter, and was promptly dropped. GRADE: C-
4.
REECE BROWN: Appearances: 18. Goals: 1. Yet to recapture last season’s excellent form regularly. Outstanding against Rochdale, but followed that performance with a limp display at MK Dons, which rather sums up his inconsistent season. Tested positive for Covid at the start of the season which may have affected him, but can, and must, do better. Scored at Northampton which is a big plus. GRADE: C
