The late, great Tommy Robson is close to a return home after successful fundraising night attended by Peterborough United promotion heroes

The Tommy Robson statue has moved a little closer to a permanent place at Peterborough United’s Weston Homes Stadium.

Adi Mowles, the chief organiser of the fund-raising effort to honour the club’s record appearance maker, has confirmed the Robson sculpture is complete and could be signed off next Thursday after a viewing.

Mowles made his announcement at a charity event at the Holiday Inn, Thorpe Wood on Thursday, night.

The event was attended by 19 players from the Posh promotion-winning squads of 1991-1992, 1999-2000 and 2010-2011 as well as almost 200 paying guests. Among the players to attend were George Boyd, Craig Mackail-Smith, Gaby Zakuani, Steve Castle and Marcus Ebdon.

The evening raised close to £12k to be split between the Robson statue fund and locally-based charity the Free Kicks Foundation.

Robson died in October, 2020 aged 76. The left winger made 559 Posh appearances and scored 128 goals in a 13-season spell at the club.
