Statement signing for Peterborough United Women as striker with higher level experience joins the squad

Peterborough United Women have made a statement signing ahead of their first season as a National Northern Premier Division League club.

Striker Ellie May is a former England Under 18 international. She is a graduate of Derby County’s Academy and spent time in the United States before playing for Sheffield United, Burnley and, most recently, West Bromwich Albion. May has played at tier 2 level in this country so provides invaluable experience for a team about to compete at tier 3 level for the first time.

Posh boss Jake Poole said: "Ellie is a player who brings a wealth of experience across both WSL2 and Tier 3 in recent seasons and will bring quality and real athleticism to the squad.

"She is a player that shows our ambition to progress as a football club and will be a big driver in helping us go to the next level."

May (26) added: "I am delighted to be joining the club and excited for this new chapter. After speaking with Jake and his assistant Lou (Roberts), I could really see the ambition and professionalism throughout the club and I immediately wanted to be part of the project.

"I can't wait to get started, meet the fans and my new team-mates and give everything I have got this season.”

Posh are playing a behind-closed-doors friendly against as yet unnamed opposition on Sunday.
