For a real idea of football pain just look at these unlucky 13 nightmares Posh have suffered in the past.

2014: Posh were 3-0 up at Oldham at half-time in a League One game. They were 4-2 up with a quarter of the game to go and 4-3 up in the 89th minute, but contrived to lose 5-4 after Lee Tomlin (pictured) had been sent off. The embarrassing nature of the defeat might have been what caused boss Darren Ferguson to swerve the press for the first and only time in his Posh career. Photo: Midlands

1992: HOOLIGANS. Posh smashed non-league Kingstonian 9-1 in an FA Cup replay at London Road, but in the second-half someone in the London Road End lobbed a 50p piece at the visiting goalkeeper and hit him on the head. An FA disciplinary committee ordered the match to be replayed behind closed doors. Posh won that game 1-0, but only after their good name had been dragged through the mud. It was harsh on Tony Philliskirk (pictured) who scored five goals in the 9-1 match. Photo: Midlands

1987: FA CUP SHOCKER. Posh have a decent record against non-league teams in the FA Cup, but in December 1987 they were outplayed by Sutton United from the Conference at London Road. It was Posh’s 100th FA Cup tie as a League club and the first time a non-league team had beaten them at home. Forward Les Lawrence (pictured) scored at both ends in a 3-1 loss. Two seasons later Sutton beat top-flight Coventry in the same competition. Photo: Midlands

1999: BOXING DAY BATTERING. Rotherham tried to get their Christmas trip to London Road postponed as their squad had been ravaged by illness. The game went ahead and pathetic Posh lost 5-0, a record Football League home defeat. Star players Simon Davies and Matthew Etherington plus popular coach Paul Ashworth all left the club within days, but both sides did go on to win promotion from Division Three. Photo: Midlands
