For a real idea of football pain just look at these unlucky 13 nightmares Posh have suffered in the past.
1.
2013: RELEGATION. Posh concede twice in the final seven minutes at Crystal Palace to suffer relegation from the Championship on the final day of the 2012-13 season. Posh lost 3-2 and went down with a record 54 points. Some say the club hasn't fully recovered since that fateful day. Photo: Midlands
2.
1967: DEMOTION. Before the 1967-68 Third Division campaign was halfway through Posh were informed they were to be demoted to Division Four at the end of the season for making illegal bonus payment offers to players. The offers related to an FA Cup tie the previous seaon which Posh lost 7-1 at Sunderland. Manchester United had been found guilty of the same crime and were only fined which made the punishment even more harsh and upsetting. Manager Norman Rigby (pictured) was left to pick up the pieces. 3.
1978: SO CLOSE. On the final day of the 1977-78 Third Division season Posh needed to win at champions Wrexham to win promotion to the second tier of the Football League for the first time in the club's history. Posh played superbly, but couldn't find a way past inspired home goalkeeper Dai Davies (pictured) and the match finished 0-0. Posh missed out on promotion on goal difference to Preston who had many fans at the Racecourse Ground just to rub it in. It was a great season, but star defender Chris Turner left the club that summer, manager John Barnwell left at the start of the following season and Posh went on to get relegated.
4.
1989: DERBY DAY DISASTER. The first game of 1989 saw Posh host local rivals Cambridge United in a Division Four derby. It was 1-1 after four minutes with Posh striker Dave Swindlehurst scoring at both ends, but then a young striker called Dion Dublin (pictured) took over bagging a hat-trick as a Cambridge side managed by Posh great Chris Turner won 5-1.
