But, like every other year, 2020 has thrown up many Posh related heroes and villains ...

HERO: Tommy Robson RIP. The club legend (pictured with another Posh superstar George Boyd) and more importantly a great man, passed away in late October after bearing the horrors of motor neurone disease with spirit, grace and typical good humour. Other Posh men to pass away in 2020 were Eric Brookes - full-back - 3/2/1944 - 6/1/2020, Jim Kelly - centre forward - 4/6/1933 - 14/1/2020, Tom Daley - goalkeeper - 15/11/1933 - 23/1/2020 - Brian Jackson - right half - 1/4/1933 - 14/2/2020 - and Richie Barker - inside forward- 23/11/1939 - 11/10/2020. RIP to them all. Photo: Midlands

VILLAIN: Oliver Dowden. Who? You may well ask which is part of the problem. The Right Honourable Oliver Dowden CBE was appointed Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport on 13 February 2020 and yet he's been pretty much invisible during a massive crisis in the country's most popular sport. This pathetic Tory Government did manage to bail rugby union out though to ensure accusations of bias towards a sport favoured by the toffs.

HEROES: Adi Mowles (pictured) and his statue commitee. The sad passing of Sir Tommy Robson prompted an enormous outpouring of love and respect from everyone connected to Posh. It always impresses me how quickly the club's fans get together and organise permanent tributes to club legends, and even short-term Posh folk like Steve Cooper. Chris Turner has a statue outside the Weston Homes Stadium and he will be joined soon by a statue of Sir Tommy. Adi's opinionated and outspoken manner doesn't endear him to everyone, but he's a force of nature when in charge of a worthy project. Take a bow all involved in his latest mission. Photo: Midlands

VILLAIN: Covid-19 (and Boris Johnson): I had some sympathy for Boris and his inept cabinet when Covid struck as it was a once-in-a-lifetime event (a bit like Cobblers beating Posh), but their response to issues, and not just in football, has been slow, weak and usually wrong. Sympathy turned to despair at the handling many months ago.
