Peterborough United Women's FA Cup tie abandoned after serious injury, hat-trick hero in Under 18s win

Peterborough United Women’s first round FA Cup tie at Lye Town was abandoned with just over 10 minutes to play because of a serious injury on Sunday.

Home goalkeeper Pharyn Ashton was injured in the 78th minute and the match was called off after a lengthy delay while treatment was carried out.

Lye led 1-0 at the time, but the most likely outcome now is a replay, probably next Sunday (November 15) when the winners would have been hosting Rugby Borough in the second round.

The hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time courtesy of a fine strike from Brittany Lote.

Posh fielded defender Charlotte Steggles in goal with regular number one Neive Corry on the substitutes bench and she made a couple of good early saves.

Posh had plenty of chances to score despite a difficult playing surface. Ellie May and Jess Driscoll went close in the first-half with May then striking an upright with a header from a Lauren Wilshaw cross.

Posh: Steggles, Jenkins, Driscoll-King, Mears (sub Clarke, 73 mins), Pitt, Driscoll (sub Hines, 46 mins), Bartlett (sub Osker, 63 mins), Reynolds, Wilshaw (sub Ganado, 63 mins), May, Perkins (sub Rai, 73 mins).

Kurtis Simmons struck a hat-trick as Posh Under 18s bounced back from a frustrating FA Youth Cup first round exit to beat QPR 4-1 in a Professional Development League match on Saturday. Oliver Arber scored the other goal.

Posh lost 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Mansfield Town in their FA Youth Cup tie last Wednesday.

Posh Under 21s are back in action with a Premier League Cup tie against Newcastle United at Stamford AFC on Friday (November 13, 7pm).
