Peterborough United director driven off social media by personal abuse and threats

Peterborough United director Iain Crawford has been driven off social media by personal abuse and threats.

Crawford, whose profile at Posh was raised considerably as he became the front man following the appointment of Robbie Savage as manager, was angered by comments aimed at him in the wake of Saturday’s humbling 5-0 FA Cup hammering at the hands of Reading.

Crawford then made a succession of statements on X during which he insisted he would sell his shares in Posh if a suitable offer was received.

Crawford said: “I swore in a response to a fan who had just called me a p****. Should I have? Definitely not, but everyone has a breaking point and that obviously was mine. I’ve interacted with and helped many fans in my time involved with the club yet for some reason or another I’ve become the bad guy.

"Just a reminder that three others own more than me. I’m a PUFC fan and have watched them for as long as I’ve lived in England circa. 18 years and becoming a director was never something I’d planned but it happened and I was, and am, incredibly proud to be a custodian of the club.

"However, in recent times the levels of threats and abuse received on here directed to me, and on occasion a family member, is unacceptable and for that reason I’m going to come off social media as it’s not right or fair.

"I will continue to do the very best I can for the parts of the football club for which I’m responsible and I apologise for swearing in an earlier post, but again after being abused it was something I shouldn’t have done but I did and I’m not a deleter of posts so it will remain for all to see and to have a go at me for.

“Times are tough currently and I want nothing more than us to turn this around so I will continue to do what I can to assist the club as I always have but I will now do it away from X and elsewhere.”

“If anyone has the money and wants to buy my shares I’ll happily sell. I only got involved as the club needed my help financially. Three others own more than me so I’ll happily sell if someone wants to buy - it’s as simple as that.”

Crawford is a business partner of Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony outside of football. He oversees the running of the Peterborough United Women’s team.
