Peterborough United Women's boss hails a monumental moment for the club
Peterborough United Women’s manager Jake Poole has hailed a ‘monumental’ moment for the club.
Posh won a tier 3 game for the first time in the club’s history as Liverpool Feds were beaten 3-2 in the National Northern Premier Division at PIMS Park.

Two goals from Ellie May and another from Evie Driscoll-King gave Posh enough of a cushion to withstand a late fightback from the visitors who had seen a player sent-off in the first half.
Poole said: “You can’t underestimate the importance of this win. It’s a monumental moment for the club. We have worked so hard to get here and now we want to prove we belong here.

"We were excellent in the first 25 minutes. We scored twice and could have scored more, but we then needed the cushion of our third goal as we were facing a very good side who have played at this level for a while now.
“They have good players and they were brave with 10 players in the second-half. They punished us at times, but it was important for us to get over the line and we did.
"It was two good teams going at it and there was an edge to the game at times, but we showed some impressive grit, fight and character to see the game out. We are a young side and we had some young players on the pitch at the end to help us shore things up. Some of our emergency defending was excellent.”
May opened the scoring with a far post header in the seventh minute before Driscoll-King scored a similar goal from a corner in the 15th minute.

Feds’ player Holly McEvoy was then shown a straight red card after retaliating to a foul by Niamh Reynolds. The visitors then missed a great chance to pull a goal back, but a Georgia Walters penalty struck the crossbar.
Posh sneaked away to make it 3-0 thanks to a fine finish from May from just inside the penalty area early in the second-half before the Feds launched their late comeback with two goals in the final 16 minutes.
Posh: Corry, Jenkins (sub Connor. 60 mins), Pitt, Osker, Driscoll-King, Mears (sub Greenwood, 86 mins), Driscoll (sub Higginbottom, 86 mins), Perkins, May, Ganado (sub Andersen, 73 mins). Reynolds (sub Saunders, 60 mins). Unused subs: Rai, Wilshaw.
Poole will probably make changes for a Thursday night League Cup group game against lower level Notts County at PIMS Park (August 27, 7.45pm kick off).
They travel to West Bromwich Albion for a National League game on Sunday when they could meet up with former player Tara Kirk. ‘The Baggies’ have lost both of their league games so far this season. May is a former West Brom player.
**Posh will play their Women's Northern Premier League fixture with Loughborough Lightning at the Weston Homes Stadium on Sunday, September 13 (3pm kick off).
