Peterborough United will try and avoid turbulence at York City in the Tuesday night friendly

Peterborough United’s Tuesday night friendly opponents York City have endured a turbulent 48 hours.

The League Two side stunned their own fans on Monday by parting company with popular manager Stuart Maynard, the boss who steered them to promotion back into the Football League after a 10-year absence.

And York replaced him with Scott Lindsey, a manager sacked by League Two side Crawley Town towards the end of a miserable campaign.

It’s Lindsey’s first game in charge tonight and he’s called for supporters to pull together, as well he might as the reaction to his arrival at the LNER Community Stadium has been, at best, mixed.

The club line was Maynard wanted to travel in a different direction to the board.

York have changed stadium since Posh last visited for a Division Three game in 1999 which finished 0-0. That much took place at Bootham Crescent, a home the football club left in 2021. It was sold for housing.

Posh expect to have midfielder Ben Woods back tonight after he missed Saturday’s friendly defeat at Boston United because of Illness. Otherwise the squad will look very similar as centre-backs Tom O’Connor, Sam Hughes and George Nevett are all injured as is full-back Rio Adebisi.

Following the departure of Kyrell Lisbie, and no new players arriving, winger Wanya Marçal could play as a trialist again.

York City striker Ollie Pearce has a fantastic scoring record of 66 goals in 99 appearances for ‘The Minstermen.’
