Peterborough United take a punt on an Isthmian League winger from Binfield FC

Peterborough United have taken a punt on a winger who has been plying his trade at Isthmian League South Central Division level.

Ejiro Abbey has signed a pro deal with Posh and will link up with the Under 21 squad after impressing as a goal-scoring trialist for the team before Christmas.

Posh had spotted him playing for Binfield FC, a step four club based in Bracknell, which is three levels below the National League. Abbey was formerly an Academy player with League One Reading.

Abbey said: "As soon as I walked through the door, I was made to feel incredibly welcome, by my teammates and by the coaches and it felt like the perfect place for me to try and show what I can do.

"Obviously as a winger, my job is to create and score goals for the team, so there is a little pressure when you are on trial, but I just tried to play my game and I am delighted that I am now here for longer.”

Academy Director Dan Robinson added: "Ejiro is another example of a player plying their trade in non-league football having previously been at a professional Academy and his performances have caught the eye of our scouts.

"Having completed a successful trial period, we are delighted to offer him professional terms. He is an exciting player and someone we are looking forward to seeing play regularly for us within the 21s."

Lead Under 21 Coach Sam Gaughran said: "Ejiro is an exciting player. He is direct, positive, wants to get at the full-back and has had some good outcomes already this season in terms of goals and assists."
