Some were quite famous, others had decent back stories, while some delivered infamously poor performances before leaving London Road.
Here the PT remembers 20 of them. How many do you remember?

ADAM FRY: Apps 4. It was something of a surprise to see the industrious midfield-playing son of Barry win a professional contract and an even bigger one to see him make four first-team appearances, albeit just the one start. Certainly one of Barry's many assistants Bobby Gould was surprised to see Adam on the substitutes' bench one night at Bristol City as he rang the ET Posh writer after the game to tell him he'd quit because of it at half-time! TERRY GIBSON. Apps 1. The tiny terror of a centre-forward played for Wimbledon in their famous FA Cup Final defeat of Liverpool in 1988. He'd previously played for Spurs and Manchester United so when he moved to Posh on a free transfer in 1994 there was some excitement. Unfortunately he played just once, very disappointingly, in a 1-0 defeat in a big relegation battle at Barnsley before moving on to Barnet.

JIMMY GHAICHEM. Apps 3. A slightly-built midfielder who moved to Posh from Sheffield Wednesday in 2006 and made just three appearances in two seasons before he was released.

ALAN KIMBLE. apps 3. Alan was far more talented than his twin Garry, but only one of them is etched firmly in Posh folklore for scoring the winning goal against Liverpool in 1991. Alan joined Posh a decade after his sibling's big night having played over 500 times in the Football League for Wimbledon, Cambridge United and Exeter. Injuries restricted him to three Posh appearances.
