The build-up to the tie was dominated by the Savage family duel and the 23 year-old was a clear winner after receiving a rare opportunity to shine from the start this season.

After the game Savage spoke to his club’s media team and the national press. He said: “It was a very strange one. I was always conscious of not making it into a kind of farce.

"It's a professional game. It was an FA Cup game and my job was to help Reading win and his job was to help Peterborough win.

"I think he's got a tough job on his hands, but I think he's got the personality and the drive to rally the troops and hopefully keep them up because, like I say, it's going to be a tough ask.

“I didn't know what to do when I scored, so I just ran over and gave it a knee slide, but it was an enjoyable game.

"We're a very counter-attacking team. For my goal Kyreece Lisbie dribbled inside, Jack Marriott then got a touch and I let it run across my body and it went into the middle of the net after a little deflection.

"I had one a chance in the first 10 minutes. I rushed that one a little bit, but I've been working in training to bounce the ball into the floor to kind of disrupt the keepers.

"I think Mesut Ozil used to do it and honestly this week I've been practising it so I'm happy that it came off."
