Peterborough United complete signing of Liam Kelly from Milton Keynes

The 30-year-old has signed a three-year-contract at the club, which is believed to have been a major pull factor in securing the deal.

Kelly was was named MK's Player of the Season and was named in the League Two Team of the Season as they were automatically promoted from League Two last season.

He has also played for Reading, Oxford, Rochdale and a short spell at Feyenoord.

Luke Williams said: “Liam is a really talented player, an experienced midfielder who joins us off the back of a brilliant season with Milton Keynes Dons.

"I think it is a really positive signing, he will bring quality and help us control the middle of the pitch and I am really looking forward to working with him. He is someone that can handle the ball, read the game, understand the opposition from a tactical point of view and he will be a real asset to us."

Kelly said: "It has been in the works for a few weeks. There was interest there, that is a nice feeling to feel wanted and Peterborough have really been keen on bringing me to the club.

"For me and my career, I felt this was a great move for me and I can't wait to get started. Last season went really well as a team and also on a personal level, so it was always a difficult decision to leave, but the manager here has played a massive part in bringing me to the club.

"He is someone that I have known about for a while, I have come up against his teams before and they are tough to play against, I have spoken to a lot of players who have played under him and they have all spoken very highly of the gaffer.

"When I heard about the move, it was something that I was really excited about. Hopefully I can help the younger lads in the group with my experience and hopefully I can learn a few things from them too."

MK triggered an option in the summer to keep him a further year until the end of the season but he has now chosen to join Posh.

Kelly was also instrumental in Crawley’s promotion to League One in the 2023/24 season; scoring and assisting in their Play-Off final victory over Crewe.

More as we have it.
