Peterborough United boss confirms two further players carrying knocks

Two Peterborough United are currently playing with knocks.

Following Posh’s 3-3 draw with Exeter City on Saturday, boss Luke Williams confirmed that both Brandon Khela and Harry Leonard played in the match despite carrying injury issues.

Both players were influential in Posh coming back from 3-1 down after a nightmare in the second half.

Khela replaced teenage debutant Patryk Sykut straight after the visitors scored their third in nine second half minutes and helped Posh get hold of the ball, while Leonard scored both goals to rescue a point for his side. Sykut had scored the first Posh goal.

The comments from Williams built on those from chairman Darragh MacAnthony on his ‘Hard Truth’ podcast this week that Posh have a couple of players in the squad that are putting their bodies ‘on the line’ to play despite needing minor surgeries.

Williams confirmed that Khela was not passed fit enough to start, which opened the door for 17-year-old Sykut to make his first professional start.

Williams said: “It’s been quite challenging but that’s normal. Every club has periods where it is challenging to get recovery into players.

“We have to be good enough to overcome it and it’s been challenging, but I am hoping we are going to more players coming back into the squad soon to help us with these fixtures.

“Brandon is not moving right. He’s in pain, but he’s a warrior and competitor. To start the game though and take him off at half time would not have been the right call. He did a great job though and his pain levels continues to improve each day.

“I am impressed with him and his desperation to help the team by playing.

“We know Harry is a goalscorer. He’s been a bit quieter recently, but has still been in the right place on a couple of occasions and not converted, but he really had the bit between his teeth today.

“I know he is suffering a bit and is carrying something, but he looked bright and a proper striker.”
