Peterborough United boss concerned about nature of goals being conceded but feels his side were good value for a point at Milton Keynes

Peterborough United boss Luke Williams has admitted to being concerned about the nature of the goals his side is conceding but felt they were good value for a point at Milton Keynes on Saturday.

A Chris Conn-Clarke strike three minutes from time rescued Posh a 1-1 draw away at Stadium MK after they had trailed from the 30th minute following the opener from Aaron Collins.

Posh and MK remain locked together on five points from six games. Posh are still to win away this season and MK are still yet to win at all in the league. Results on Saturday have dropped Posh into the bottom four after six matches.

Williams said post-match that he felt neither side were at the best but his side were good value for the point they picked up.

He said: “It was a really tough game and we deserved a point. Neither team was at their best or created too many big chances so we were not at our best but value for a point.

“We were all a bit surprised there was only three minutes added but over the whole game, I don’t think we can argue with a point.

“We had a really good impact from players off the bench and all managers preach about being ready to jump into a game and they did exactly that. I wasn’t overly disappointed with the guys who started.

“We lost our way just before we conceded and a few mistakes crept in. We were pretty comfortable before that. Those changes gave us a push.

“It’s difficult when we concede. We have suffered a lot for too long now and there’s a feeling when the goal goes in but we consolidated and the subs gave us a bit of energy and positivity and gave us the energy to get the point.

“I am concerned about the nature of the goals we are conceding but my job is to help the players to overcome those problems and we continue to strive.

“They allowed us the ball in our own half and pressed with Sam Nombe on his own. They packed the rest of the pitch and its really difficult to play forward really quickly when the opposition are doing that.

“If you go too high too early, they are a threat if they go direct. So, we had to manage the game in the best way we could. It was difficult to play forward without an opposition coming at you so much. We had to play the way we did.”

Posh are in action again on Tuesday night (September 15, 7:45pm as they host Barnsley in the EFL Cup third round. They were beaten 3-0 away at Plymouth on Saturday and sit 18th in the league.
