Okagbue could be back for Peterborough United as O'Connor departs and Mendy signs a permanent deal

Central defender Tom O’Connor has returned to Wrexham following a loan spell with Peterborough United.

The 26 year-old made 19 appearances for Posh, but picked up a hamstring injury in the first-half of the recent League One defeat at home to Plymouth.

A scan has now shown serious damage which will likely keep him out for the season so he has gone back to his parent club to complete his recovery.

The loan move of defender Jacob Mendy from Wrexham to Posh has become a permanent deal to the end of the season. The 29 year-old is currently working his way back to full fitness. He’s started just six games for Posh, the last at Port Vale just before Christmas when he limped off injured in the first-half.

It’s thought Posh and Wrexham have come to a financial agreement covering the return of O’Connor and the transfer of Mendy.

Teenager George Nevett has deputised ably for O’Connor while centrer-back David Okagbue is expected to be available for Saturday’s home League One game with Wigan, according to chairman Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony.

Okagbue has not played since damaging his ankle in the final moments of a 1-1 home draw with Reading on December 29.
