LIVE: BLACKPOOL vs PETERBOROUGH UNITED: Posh capitulate late to lose at Bloomfield Road

Peterborough may fancy their chances of a rare away win as they take on Blackpool at Bloomfield Road (December 18, 3pm).

In one of the few games to survive the raft of Covid cancellations, Posh travel to face a Blackpool side who have now won in any of their last seven and haven’t scored in their last four over.

It represents a great chance to take something for only the second away match this season.

LIVE BLOG: Blackpool vs Posh

Key Events

  • 3pm kick-off
  • Posh can escape the relegation zone with a win
  • Joe Tomlinson expected to start with Dan Butler injured
  • No win in 7 or goal in 4 for Blackpool
  • Blackpool beat Posh twice last season

These two sides met last season of course as both gained promotion to this League. Posh’s incredible comeback draw against Lincoln meant they did it the easy way and avoided the Tangerines, who finished the season like a train and were the form team going into those playoffs. They rode that form all the way to the Championship and here we are.

They beat Posh twice in fact. A stoppage time goal from Gary Madine did the damage in the home match before Posh were soundly beaten 3-1 at Bloomfield Road. That extended the losing streak against Blackpool to three matches.

23 Mar 2021- Blackpool 3-1 (Ward) Posh

21 Nov 2021- Posh (Kent) 1-2 Blackpool

2 Nov 2019 Blackpool 4-3 Posh (Eisa, Toney, Maddison)

13 Apr 2019- Blackpool 0-1 Posh (Maddison)

29 Sep 2018- Posh (Rhys Bennett, O’Hara) 2-2 Blackpool

Feels good to be on the way to a game, this one of the minority in that has survived the Covid curse!

The referee today is David Webb. He was the main with the whistle at home against Derby in August so happy memories. In fact, Posh have only lost once in the last seasons in matches Webb has refereed, against Blackpool...in December...in the Championship. Blackpool won 4-1 at London Road. Dwight Gayle with a consolation for Posh.

A little more optimism for this away day than usual from me. It’s a long one but Posh have a real chance to put a win together with both this trip and the home tie against Reading. Can they do it? Let’s find out together.
