'Inchy' Phillips is the next guest of honour at a Posh senior citizens event
Steve ‘Inchy’ Phillips is the next guest of honour at a Peterborough United senior citizens event.
The diminutive striker made 57 appearances for Posh between 1986 and 1988 scoring 17 goals, including a hat-trick in a 4-0 win at Newport County in April, 1988.

The Welsh club were so cash-strapped at the time they couldn’t afford to give Phillips the match ball so the Evening Telegraph stepped in to pay for it. Only 988 fans watched the game which remains the smallest Football League to watch a game involving Posh.
An England youth international, Phillips played for Cobblers (twice), Southend and Brentford before joining Posh from Torquay. He scored on his debut in the first game of Noel Cantwell’s second spell as Posh boss.
In the 1977-78 season Phillips was the top scorer in the country by netting 36 goals for Brentford.
Post-Posh Phillips played for Stamford, Baker Perkins, Molins and Warboys. After retirement he opened ‘Inchy’s Bar’ in Spain.
Phillips will be at the new Posh executive suite at the Weston Homes Stadium on Wednesday, September 16 between noon and 2pm. Admission is free and free refreshments will be served
