Gustav goes back to Sweden after a frustrating 12 months at Peterborough United

Gustav Lindgren has signed for Swedish top-flight club BK Hacken after a frustrating 12 months at Peterborough United.

An expectation the 24 year-old would return home after a year at London Road was highlighted by the PT in recent weeks. The move has now been confirmed after Lindgren passed a medical earlier this week after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has previously stated he had turned down bids in excess of the £500k his club paid Swedish second tier side Degerfors for Lindgren last winter.

Lindgren made his Posh debut as half-time substitute in a January FA Cup tie at Everton and scored twice on his full Posh debut in a 4-2 EFL Trophy win against Walsall at London Road a few days later.

But, despite moments of promise from the substitutes’ bench, Lindgren started just 11 EFL games for Posh, 17 in total, and scored six goals, four of them in League One including three this season, the latest in a 1-1 draw at home to Reading on December 29. He also made 26 substitute appearances for the club.

Lindgren missed last weekend’s win over Bolton Wanderers, apparently with a knock, but watched the game before flying to Sweden for his medical.

BK Hacken have just finished 10th in the 2025 Swedish Allsvenskan. The club is based in Gothenburg and played in Europa League qualifiers this season without reaching the main group stage. They moved into the Europa Conference League, but failed to win any of their six group matches.

Lindgren is the fifth Posh player to leave London Road since the winter transfer window opened on January 1, but two are loan moves.

Posh have let midfielder Ryan De Havilland join League Two strugglers Bristol Rovers, while on-loan goalkeeper VIcente Reyes has returned to parent club Norwich City. Forward Chris Conn-Clarke has seen his loan at National League Carlisle United extended to the end of the season and attacking player Klaidi Lolos has joined his former club Crawley Town on loan.
