Former Peterborough United star is a surprise selection for England's World Cup Finals squad
Former Peterborough United star Ivan Toney is a surprise call-up to England’s World Cup Final squad.
Manager Thomas Tuchel is not due to announce his squad until Friday morning, but leaks started emerging on Thursday afternoon.

Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has confirmed hs has not been included. It’s also thought Cole Palmer, Luke Shaw and Phil Foden have not made the final cut.
But reports say Toney has been selected. The 30 year-old has enjoyed an outstanding goal-scoring season, but he has been playing in the low-class Saudi Pro League for Al-Ahli. He has bagged 49 goals in all competitions for his club and could have well have jumped to the front of the queue to act as Harry Kane’s understudy.
Toney’s selection is a shock as he wasn’t used in the World Cup qualifying matches. He last appeared for England last summer with a late substitute appearance in a home defeat to Senegal.
Toney was at the 2024 Euros with England. He has 7 caps and has scored once, a penalty.
Toney joined Posh from Newcastle United in August, 2018 for a reported fee of £250k. Posh sold him to Brentford two years later in a deal ultimately worth £10 million to Posh.
If Toney appears at the World Cup he will become the 7th former Posh player to take part in the Finals.
