Exeter City bosses were thrilled an frustrated after a rip-roaring second-half at Peterborough United

Exeter City staff were torn between celebrating or cursing an away point after a rip-roaring second against Peterborough United at the Weston Homes Stadium.

‘The Grecians’ looked to have taken the points when top scorer Jayden Wareham completed a nine-minute hat-trick at the start of the second-half. The fastest hat-trick in the club’s history gave Exeter a 3-1 lead.

But two headed goals from the leading Posh marksman Harry Leonard rescued a point for the hosts. Teenager Patryk Sykut had scored the only goal of the first-half on his full Posh debut.

Exeter assistant coach Kevin Nicholson told the Exeter Echo: “The minutes from half time to when Jayden completed his hat trick was one of the best spells of football I've been privileged to watch and to be part of. It was outstanding, it was incisive, it was decisive, it was ruthless, it was fast, it was everything that you'd want your team to be.

“It was just really, really simple football done really, really well at pace, and the goals were outstanding. But we were shouting from the side, go again, get four, get five.

“And I just thought that one or two mistakes then crept in, one or two moments, whereas before, we were just playing simple, quick football, but then we lingered and it's amazing, in the game of football, how just a little moment can switch the momentum and can give a team a little bit of hope and we concede from a corner which was poor on our part.

“We conceded really poor goals and all very, very preventable. The first one we let a player get a shot away when he was surrounded by our players. That's a real frustration, but at the same time, we scored three of the best goals that you'll see in the league see this week

“Honestly I'm not sure whether I'm happy with the point or devastated that we didn't win. But it was certainly value for money for everybody that was here watching.”
